What is a Child Advocate?

Every year thousands of children are abused or neglected. These children end up in the court system and their only “crime” is that they have been victims, often due to one or both parents’ drug or alcohol addictions.  Through no fault of their own, these children are removed from their homes and placed in foster care while their parents undergo services to address the problems in the home. Children in this situation are scared, confused, sad, lonely, and overwhelmed...

They are put into a court system they do not understand. They need a voice to help determine what is in their best interest. That’s where a Child Advocate comes in.

Child Advocates are trained community volunteers who are appointed by the court to speak for the best interest of these neglected and abused children. We serve as investigator, advocate, and facilitator. We are their voices.

The Cass County Child Advocates is looking for compassionate, caring volunteers to be the “voices of children”. If you love children and have the time to help ensure that the children in our counties have a safe, happy home, we need your help.  Please consider volunteering to be the “voice of a child”.
